Real Values

Greg Schapker

I became a CPA in 1976, and joined the firm of Novikoff, Manheimer & Co. in 1979, one year after the firm was formed. In 1986, I became a partner in the firm, and then managing partner in 1994. I continue in this capacity today. During these years, I have worked with many different types of businesses. The clients vary in size with annual sales ranging from $100 thousand to $100 million. Often times, I perform the function of my clients' CEO, particularly in the areas of consulting. I handle my clients' tax and accounting needs, from compilation, review or audited financial statements, income tax returns, and planning.

Years ago, I was a stay-at-home mom for my two sons. Once they started school, I went to work in 1981 for a client of Novikoff, Manheimer & Co. When my boss would ask me to call the accounting firm for some information, he would say " Be sure to talk to Dick, not that new kid he has working for him." That "new kid" was Greg Schapker, and Dick had assigned him to work with our company. Greg was great to work with and taught me so much about being a great client. After leaving that job, I worked for other companies, and when an accountant was needed, I always recommended Greg. My bosses were always pleased with the results Greg provided. So who knew that in 1998, I would begin working as Greg's executive assistant? I enjoy working with our clients, helping them resolve the many different issues that they encounter. I do much of the administrative work, including client billing, and overall, just try my hardest to keep the company on track. This year, I am so blessed to have my son, Edward, home from the Air Force and working in our office doing computer networking. But even better, he married my dear friend and co-worker, Carissa Burns (Werling), in August, and gave me the daughter I never had. I have to admit, I have the best job ever!

I am the receptionist at Novikoff, Manheimer & Co., and have been here since 2006. I graduated from Covington High School in 1988, and attended Edison Community College. I have been married for 13 years and have a wonderful 9 year old son and two very rambunctious labradoodles. I have worked in customer service in various positions for 20+ years and thoroughly enjoy being a receptionist, as it gives me the opportunity to get to know our clients on a more personal level.  I am a Notary Public for the state of Ohio.

First of all I want to say I have the perfect job! I say this because it allows me to have the best of both worlds. I work part time three days a week, which has allowed me to be home when my children get home from school. This is very important to me and I'm very fortunate that Greg gives me this opportunity. Before joining the firm, I was a stay-at-home mom, caring for my three children (2 daughters; son). I also worked at home doing medical transcription. In the office, my responsibilities include accounts payable and receivable, handling tax notices for our clients, and customer service. I'm the office travel agent and party planner, and am considered the "jack of all trades," as when something out of the ordinary needs to be done, I'm usually the one asked to do it. I'm always willing to lend support to the other team members with projects, such as assisting Greg with several estate issues. I genuinely enjoy my job and feel fortunate to be part of such a great firm.

I interviewed with Novikoff, Manheimer & Co. in early 2010 with a recommendation from a co-worker who used to work for Greg.  I am so thankful to this woman because I have found an amazing job and amazing teachers who have so patiently guided me through the crazy tax world.  I am a born-and-raised Cincinnatian, and I graduated from Wilmington College in May 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Management.  My next educational milestones are to conquer the CPA exam and get my MBA.  In my free time, I rock climb, sing, dance, and spend time with my family, including my two mischievous cats.  I look forward to getting to know all our clients and assisting them with any of their needs.

I am a new addition to the team at Novikoff, Manheimer & Co as of June 2010. I am an honor graduate from the Indiana Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and completed my MBA degree in 2007 with a concentration in Accounting and Human Resource Management. I am also pursuing a Certified Public Accountant license. I previously worked for a public accounting firm in Indiana for 5 years and have worked in the accounting field for over 15 years. I have worked in the areas of tax, financial statement compilation, and payroll. I look forward to helping our clients with their accounting needs. On a more personal note, I have been happily married for 25 years and have four wonderful kids and three beautiful grandchildren. I love to read (when I get the opportunity!). Another hobby that is shared by my husband and I is riding Harley’s!! In case you are wondering…yes I ride my own bike. Not your typical idea of an accountant, right? We are planning a trip to the Dragon’s Tail in Tennessee soon.
