Medical Practice Management Consulting

Enhancing Practice Cash Flow

Most physician practices feel the "revenue crunch." Between keeping up with all the compliances initiatives and documention requirements, and the seemingly constant negtive reimbursement adjustments, many physicians wonder if they can afford to stay in business.

Hennie van Bulck explains how EMRs can drastically improve practice cash flow at the Sumter, Clarendon, Lee Chapter of the South Carolina Healthcare Managers Association, March 25, 2010

Hennie van Bulck presents ways to improve cash fllow at the Annual PVN meeting in New Orleans, November 2008

We are a member of the Medical Group Management Association ® (MGMA) and the Physician's Viewpoint Network ® (PVN).   PVN is an Independent Consultants Association (ICA) of independent consultants from across the United States committed to maintaining physicians' control of their profession. Most PVN consultants are Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) who commit to continuing education requirements specific to physician-related topics. PVN consultants generally limit their practices to the "physician's side" of health care. We understand the physician's point of view. Our philosophy is that physicians should maintain control of their professional future. We are prepared to assist physicians toward this end. We assist physicians in the following areas of their practices:

Desiging, implementing and managing compliance programs

Collections and cash flow

Fee schedules and contract negotiations

Overhead and cost accounting

Medical records

Managed care

Practice marketing

Capitation

Practice valuation

Accounting, tax and retirement planning

Monthly Dashboard Scorecards

All physicans feel the crunch. Getting caught between increasingly complex compliance rules and diminishing reimbursements. Our dashboard solution gives practice managers monthly score cards showing them instantly how well they are doing and which areas need attention.

E&M Coding Score Cards

The E&M scorecard is designed in the form of a graphical dashboard, instantly showing in which areas physicians are likely leaving money "on the table" by under-coding and which codes may be over-utilized, possibly exposing the physician to penalties and other sanctions. The scorecard also shows monthly the total impact on practive revenue as a result of incorrect coding practices.

We work closely with physicians and practice managers to correct coding. Through the Physicians Viewpoint Network we have access to the most current coding techniques, electronic medical records knowledge, and compliance systems.

 AR and Collections Score Cards

No matter how hard you work, revenue only turns into cash when you collect. We want to make sure that our clients have the information they need to carefully monitor billing, accounts receivable, and collections. Our AR scorecard has proven to be a great tool by showing graphically trend in billing, collection ratios and receivables.

Medical Practice Compliance Programs

Compliance risk is one of the most significant threats facing medical practices. We offer a "compliance service" that results in your practice being "in compliance".If your practice currently has a formal Compliance Program drawn up by an attorney, or you do not have a formal Compliance Program, this service is for you. The key is to be "in Compliance", and the key areas to address are the "risk areas". These areas include:

Medical Records that support the E/M levels billed.

Billing at the appropriate level of service.

Avoiding unbundling of services.

Avoiding billing "not medically necessary services".

Avoiding duplicate billing.

Maintaining data integrity.

Proper use of modifiers.

Appropriate confidentiality agreements and policies.

Proper Professional and Courtesy Discounts policies and procedures.

Altering medical records appropriately.

Not employing Sanctioned Individuals.

Having all the "must have coding references and tools."

Engaging the services of qualified external vendors for coding.

Medical record documentation reviews and educational programs.

Refunding overpayments.

Auditing and monitoring billing procedures.

Appropriate Records management.

Appropriate Coding orientation and training.

Education and training on Compliance.

What makes our Compliance Services different from other services offered is that our program "solves the problem", rather than relying on education of physicians and staff and leaving it up to the practice staff to implement compliance.

We can assist you with the design, implementation and management of your compliance program. We would be happy to discuss our services with you.
