Both members of the NYS Governmental Officers Association (GFOA) in Orange County and the NYS GFOA recently called upon Dutchess County-based Sedore & Company, certified public accountants, to make keynote presentations to their membership. Sedore has long been known throughout the region for its expertise in handling municipal accounts and audits.

The first event, with the Orange Co GFOA this past summer, focused on Accounting for Capital Projects and took the audience through the entire process starting with authorizations and budgeting and ending with closing out the project and transferring to capital assets.

Sedore also presented to the Downstate Council of the NYS GFOA, an organization that includes Dutchess, New York City, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester Counties. This full-day seminar focused on Internal Controls for municipalities, touching upon what they are, how to implement them, and what happens when controls are not in place. The event included an interactive workshop for a fraud case.

“The events went extremely well,” says Sedore partner Linda Hannigan, who specializes in municipalities. “The participants asked a lot of questions and we were able to help them gain much stronger understandings of complex issues."
